My partner and I ordered the boxing on Sky Box Office and forked up £15 for the privilege to watch it. The fight that i really wanted to watch was Hitman Hatton who was due to come out at 4am English time. But i had planned to sleep for a few hours then get up to watch it, which i did which was amazing in itself to get my butt out of bed at that time!
And i was excited, adrenaline was rushing and i was hoping and praying for Hatton to win!! The rigmerole of the boxers coming out and taking their corners took long enough and finally the boxing commenced. In the first round Hatton got knocked down twice and it was making me feel awful everytime i saw him struggling to get back up, holding on to the Pac Man because his legs were like jelly. But he made it through to the second round.
After some brawling, suddenly from out of nowhere Pac Man gave Hatton a shocking left hook and Hatton fell straight back.....no arms out to break his fall.......he was UNCONSCIOUS!! Then it hit me like a big left hook - how can this be entertaining?! I actually realised thee gravity of the situation, these are two grown men hoping to knock the other one out!!
Hatton lying there unconscious being put into the recovery position, eyes rolling around i thought about his poor mother and fiancee at the side of the ring having to watch from afar their precious boy/man lying on the floor, possibly waking up ok or maybe not?
Then the bigger question came to me? Men with licenses training to beat the living daylights out of each other is considered entertainment, but two men drunken and brawling in the street is illegal!? I am not sure if i could watch boxing again after this epiphany?!
